Health Technology Assessment
There has been an explosive growth in knowledge, methods and published papers in this discipline in the last two decades. In this collection we are limiting ourselves to the evolution of HTA in India.
We begin with a 2013 paper in the Lancet “Health Technology Assessment and Universal Health Coverage“ that drew attention to the need for building capacity in HTA to be able to progress towards UHC. At that time there was no active HTA institution in the country, and there were no academic programmes and very limited capacity to do studies in this area,
This was to change dramatically over the next decade and this progress is captured in two papers both published in 2023. One of these is : “ Organizational Formation for Priority Setting: Historical Perspectives and Thematic Analysis of India’s Health Technology Assessment Agency Victoria Fan et al, 2023. The other is a “ Universal health coverage in India and health technology assessment: current status and the way forward” Chandrakant Lahariya et al.
.There are many sources of information of the studies done and role played by this agency,- and one could begin by checking out the Department of Health Research’s website on Health Technology Assessment.
